Merjent Water Resources Specialist, Dr. Rebecca Forman, Appointed to Governor's Advisory Committee to the Minnesota Pollutions Control Agency
Merjent is proud to announce that Dr. Rebecca Forman, a senior water resources specialist, was appointed by Governor Mark Dayton to a new committee created to advise the Minnesota Pollutions Control Agency MPCA). One of eight committee members, Dr. Forman will ensure citizen input into environmental regulatory decisions.
These appointees, who will serve alongside MPCA Commissioner John Stine for a three-year term, will provide advice in four main areas: environmental reviews, permit applications, developing agency rules and requests for rule variances. They will meet on a regular basis to guide the direction and enforcement of the state's environmental protection laws.
Dr. Forman's expertise includes National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting and industrial Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) design and inspection for construction and industrial sites. In addition to her consulting work at Merjent, Dr. Forman is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota and an instructor with the University of Minnesota Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program, where she has instructed over 1,000 students in classes on creating SWPPPs, installing best management practices, and managing erosion and sediment on construction sites.

Minnesota Archaeology Week was established to promote public interest in archaeology and increase an understanding of the role it plays in Minnesota's rich cultural heritage.
Merjent is a proud sponsor of the 2014 Elden Johnson Distinguished Lecture, "Minnesota's CCC Camps as Archaeological Resources: A Legacy of Environmental Restoration and Economic Recovery." One of the high points of the annual Minnesota Archaeology Week will be this year's Elden Johnson lecture given by Mark Bruhy of Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc. The lecture will focus on efforts to evaluate, preserve, and research Minnesota's 10 documented Civilian Conservation Corps camps. The talk will be held on Friday September 19 at 7pm in the Historic Fort Snelling Visitor Center.

Kristina DeName is an Environmental Analyst joining our National Environmental Protection Act team. She holds a B.S. in Environmental and Forest Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Antonio Rosario joins Merjent as a Data Entry Clerk/Office Assistant and will assist with field timesheets and expense reports. Antonio holds an Associate's degree from McNally Smith College.
Bruce Galer, Senior Environmental Analyst, brings to Merjent over 20 years of nationwide experience as an environmental consultant and geologist. Mr. Galer has been involved in the permitting and construction of utility projects, wetland delineations, stream characterizations, and assessment of endangered species habitat. He has also conducted contaminant investigation and remediation studies, environmental assessment/due diligence, and emergency spill response. He holds a B.A. in Geology from the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Jeff Miron has been hired as a Senior Cost Analyst. Mr. Miron has 10 years of experience in Environmental Services Finance and will partner with Project Managers, Business Development, Accounting, and Operations staff to improve project cost controls, establishing budgets, and resource scheduling. He previously worked in Energy Finance for Target Corporation and retail finance for Schwan's Consumer Brands and Supervalu. Mr. Miron holds an M.B.A. from Hamline University and a B.S. in Economics from Northern Michigan University.

To better serve client needs in the western states, we're pleased to announce that Leslie M. Watson has joined Merjent as a Senior Environmental Analyst.
Ms. Watson brings more than 20 years of natural resource and project management experience to the Merjent team, including National Environmental Policy Act compliance for mineral development, transportation, and transmission lines, and the preparation of environmental permits in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, California, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
Ms. Watson's experience includes conducting complex impact analyses, alternative development, and project management for Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, including coordination of cooperating agencies, alternative development, and response to public comments. She holds a B.A. in Zoology from the University of Montana.

Abby Korte, Senior Environmental Analyst, brings 7 years of environmental permitting and project management experience in the energy and mining industries, primarily for oil and gas pipelines. Ms. Korte is also a surface water hydrologist with experience in baseline environmental data collection programs, rainfall-runoff modeling, channel hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, and erosion control. She has done graduate work in watershed science at Colorado State University and holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Minnesota.
Kevin Mueller joins us as an Environmental Analyst with 7 years of experience supporting, enhancing, and streamlining geospatial data and map services to help create a wide range of products and analyses for environmental projects. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
Brie Anderson, Environmental Analyst, brings 6 years of experience in environmental permitting and wildlife and threatened and endangered species surveys in the energy industry, primarily for wind farms and transmission lines. Ms. Anderson holds a B.S. in Ecology and Field Biology (emphasis in Wildlife Biology) from St. Cloud State University.
Bec Gawtry joins Merjent as an Environmental Analyst with 8 years of experience, specializing in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and National Environmental Policy Act regulations, including land use, transportation, and wildlife sections of the FERC's section 7(c) Environmental Report applications, Environmental Impact Statements, and Environmental Assessments. She holds a B.A. in Biology from St. Olaf College.
Matt Joseph joins Merjent as an Environmental Analyst. Prior to joining Merjent, he worked at Target Corporation as a project manager. He has also held positions as a graphic artist/desktop publisher and holds a B.S. in Design Communication from the University of Minnesota.

Dean Sather, Senior Environmental Analyst, brings more than 20 years of nationwide experience as an environmental consultant and archaeologist. He is experienced with permitting and knowledgeable of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements involved in the permitting and construction of utility projects to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
Mr. Sather also manages and provides technical oversight for National Historic Preservation Act compliance-based cultural resources investigations for projects throughout the Central and Western United States. Mr. Sather holds an M.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology from the University of Kansas and a B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology from Moorhead State University.

We're pleased to announce the addition of Professional Engineer Joe Sedarski as a Senior Project Manager and a Senior Environmental Analyst to the Merjent team.
Mr. Sedarski has more than 25 years of experience managing energy and environmental permitting projects, obtaining various land use/development approvals, and providing environmental consulting and related engineering services. In addition to being a licensed Professional Engineer, he is also a licensed attorney and previously practiced law for 6 years as a transactional/litigation attorney. Mr. Sedarski also worked in the power industry and was employed by Xcel Energy as a permitting analyst.
Mr. Sedarski has extensive project management experience in environmental permitting, assessment, compliance, and related regulatory arenas and has worked on large energy infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and retail development projects across the Upper Midwest and East Coast. His experience includes all major U.S. environmental regulations and policies: RCRA, CWA, NEPA, CERCLA, CAA, and associated state and local regulations.
Mr. Sedarski has technical expertise related to permitting of energy projects, property acquisition/divestiture, environmental liability risk management, and overall energy industry regulatory planning and compliance. In addition to senior project management duties, Mr. Sedarski will also provide QA/QC of project plans and documents, proposals, permit applications, compliance, and related environmental documents. He will also provide corporate, organizational, and management services to Merjent.

Andrea Sampson joins us as a Senior Analyst and threatened and endangered species specialist. Ms. Sampson brings 22 years of experience in the environmental and conservation fields, including natural gas, natural gas liquids, and petroleum pipeline projects across the Upper Midwest. She holds an M.S. in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of St. Thomas.
We also welcome Madeline Steffenson, an Environmental Analyst with experience in the water resources and environmental regulation fields, including natural gas, natural gas liquids and petroleum pipeline and facility projects throughout the US. She holds an M.B.A. from North Dakota State University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University.

Daniel Clifford joins us as a Senior Document Controller. Mr. Clifford has 10 years of experience in editing and publishing and will provide quality assurance/quality control and editorial review on project deliverables. He holds an M.A. in Business and Finance Journalism from City University of London, UK; an M.A. in International Journalism from the University of Denmark at Aarhus; and a B.S. in News/Editorial Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Allison Lange Mueller is an Environmental Analyst with 13 years of experience in cultural resources management. Ms. Lange Mueller brings expertise in transportation, energy, conservation-related projects, and oversight for National Historic Preservation Act compliance-based cultural resources investigations. She holds an M.S. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

We're pleased to announce that Dan Hannan, Certified Safety Professional, has joined Merjent as our new Corporate Health & Safety Director. Mr. Hannan has over 23 years of applied health and safety experience, serving both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Hannan is an accomplished trainer and specializes in safety leadership development. He has led organizations through corporate cultural assessments and process improvement activities and specializes in custom training and education materials based on identified audiences and learning objectives. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Hannan is a frequent presenter and active member of several professional associations, including Board Member for both the American Society of Safety Professionals – Northwest Chapter and the Washington/Dakota Community Awareness and Emergency Response Organization. He is also a member of the National Safety Council Executive Committee for Off-the-Job Safety.
